‘Success can be measured in many ways; I now have an attitude of healthy at any weight rather than thin at any cost’

After finally reaching a point where I felt sick and tired of feeling sick and tired (cliché, I know), and suffering through the heat of summer with the extra weight I was carrying, I decided it was time to get serious about my health. I knew that eating lollies, chocolate and too much take-away just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. If I was going to improve my self confidence, which has been a problem for me all my life as I suffer from depression and anxiety issues, then I had to find a program that was going to fit in with my lifestyle and support me through my lifestyle changes.

Having given up smoking three years earlier and drinking five months earlier, it was finally time to focus on reaching my physical potential and The Real Body Plan gave me the tools and support to do just that. The regular e-mails and encouragement had the biggest impact on my motivation to complete The Real Body Plan and the weekly check-in and tips reminded me of my goals and helped me to stay on track.

In just 12 weeks, my fitness level has gone from extremely unfit to moderately fit and I am definitely much stronger. I even swam in a teacher/student race two weeks ago and actually won! My eating habits are now clean; I am still a big eater, but I am mindful of what I am putting into my body now and how poor food choices impact my workouts. I eat a lot more fruit and vegetables than I ever have before following The Real Body Plan. The Real Body Recipes were great too, they helped me to get out of a rut with my eating habits and try some new foods; this has enabled me to make healthier choices and plan my meals in advance. Whilst my self esteem is something I still battle with, I must say that it has improved over the last 12 weeks. Being disciplined with my workouts has given me some sense of control in my life at a time when many other things were clearly out of my control.

My goals now are to do The Real Body Plan again; now that I have built some muscle and feel healthier my goal is to shed some more body-fat while continuing to build muscle and strengthen my body. I am now studying my Certificate IV in Fitness and look forward to helping other people to live healthier, more productive lives. My wife is very pleased that I am looking after my health and that I have made such positive lifestyle changes; from giving up beer and cigarettes, to taking up exercise and healthy eating. I guess success can be measured in many ways and I now have an attitude of ‘healthy at any weight rather than thin at any cost’. I am more interested in body composition rather than simply losing weight. The Real Body Plan is perfectly suited to this as it is not simply a diet but rather a guide to changing your lifestyle through healthy eating and regular exercise. Dieting alone may help you to lose a little weight, but it takes both healthy eating and regular exercise to transform your body shape and your life.
